An Accident, A Caring Act, A Life Saved

  • 25 June, 2019

On 24th June 2019, at our monthly event, YooCo Coworking felicitated Akash Dutta for saving the life of Yooco team member by taking him to a hospital while a lot of others chose to drive by.

In a country, where countless lives are lost because people do not stop by to assist an accident victim, Akash Dutta not only stopped when he saw Raghav lying on the road, he waved down passing vehicles till a tempo transporting vegetables stopped and agreed to take Raghav to the nearby hospital.

It was three days before the hospital declared that Raghav was out of danger. During this time, Akash kept in touch and even drove down almost every day to check up on Raghav.

Today we have Raghav amongst us, just because of Akash’s selfless act. He was looking forward togoing home after a tiring day. He could have just driven by, like many others did on that. But he didn’t.

And that is why YooCo decided to felicitate and reward Akash with Rs. 10,000 for his selfless act.

The felicitation was followed by a talk by guest speaker, Mr. Hemendra Killawala about “Being Responsible on the road” where he talked about the importance of wearing helmets and about the Good Samaritan Law which provides legal protection to bystanders who come to the aid and rescue of victims of road crashes. In the last ten years, road crashes have killed over 13 lakh people in India and 50% of the victims died of preventable injuries.

On March 30, 2016, the Supreme Court of India gave “force of law” to the guidelines for the protection of Good Samaritans issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, but awareness of this law is still very low in our country.

The evening ended with a cake cutting by all the June borns jointly with our guests.
